No More Cookie –Cutter Colors
Confirmed by the Paint & Decorating Retailers Association, color trends in home decorating are no
longer clear-cut. Today, there’s no color trend that’s definitely “in” or “out”. We are seeing a lot of
Nature inspired colors and yet at the same time, bright greens are still being used.
Neutral tones will always be popular because they so easily blend with a wide variety of other colors
used in all homes such as carpet, wood flooring, furniture, etc. In addition, they are the “vanilla ice
cream” that most all consumers are willing to accept. The lighter tones also avoid making a room appear
smaller as most of the darker tones do.
It is always best to view potential color samples in the actual room lighting to determine their true color.
Computer screens and even the paint company color sample cards can not portray the actual color as it
will appear in your setting. The best test is done by applying an actual paint sample to the wall and
viewing it after it has time to completely dry. View this sample at different times of the day to see how
lighting conditions will effect it’s appearance.
With Porter’s COLOR NOW quart sample program, we can tint any color in the Porter system in a
quart size can for applying a sample in your actual room setting. Apply this sample in an area that you
can compare it with flooring, fabrics, and other colors that will remain. Don’t simply place it in the middle
of a wall as it can effect the way you perceive it. Below is an example of how the same color can
look different when viewed in a different manner.
